Understanding the risks associated with such properties

Rowlands & Hames have teamed up with Ecclesiastical Insurance, specialists in the provision of insurance of heritage trades, locations, monuments and organisations.

Ecclesiastical enjoy a team of specialist heritage underwriters and can accommodate almost all such risks. Additionally they have a network of specialist risk management valuers and surveyors who will visit risks if appropriate.

Background

In terms of market size, there are approximately 168,000 commercial listed buildings in England alone, around 20,000 additionally in Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland - but not all heritage and historic buildings are listed. Using listed figures and government figures as a guide, it is estimated there are circa 450,000 commercial and public heritage buildings in the UK, and at least 100,000 public heritage buildings.

Thousands of businesses are run from heritage properties - there are heritage buildings in every county.

In addition there are 2,500 museums and galleries, 18,717 monuments, 9,374 conservation areas and 1,587 registered parks and gardens.
